jives big blue building knows a thing or two about reinvention, and about possessing a colourful, whirling history. this place was once a theatre and later became the legendary toucan nightclub in the 70s. it then underwent 2 decades of bewildering changes: reborn as a bar, nightclub, risque strip joint, and a comedy club. today, jive is a live music venue for local, national and international acts. its original theatre design elements give it a huge advantage over many other band performance venues; making the space an acoustic winner with plenty of character. the stage stands before the sunken dance floor, so drinkers can have clear sight lines from the bar level. for a different perspective, head to the upper level & check out the stage action from the balcony.
jive exudes a chilled out lounge vibe catering to music lovers, and every saturday night after the bands it is the hippest night spot in town with gosh! and dig, where dj craig spins your favourite indie and 60s tunes to keep you dancing til the wee hours. the bar is well stocked and much effort has gone into making sure the range of wines and spirits is high in quantity, rich in quality.
