10 Georges Quay has been in the Kennedy family since 1920.‚  The business has evolved as the area has changed throughout this period.‚  Initially this was a public house catering for commuters (using Tara Street Railway station, situated next door) as well as those earning their living working on the quayside.‚  Prior to John Kennedy acquiring the premises in 1920 it was known as the Railway Bar before he put his name over the door and it became known as J. Kennedy Bar.

The area has changed dramatically since John Kennedy’s day.‚  It has transformed from a working bustling quayside, to a vibrant ‚ commercial and financial centre.‚  The business has changed with the times and in recent years Ciaran Kennedy successfully ran the bar bringing his musical interests to the mix. The bar trade also changed throughout this period as food has now become an important factor in the offering required by our customers.

It was with this changing environment in mind that the three Kennedy brothers John, Ciaran and Tom decided they would complement an excellent bar experience, with great food.‚  ‚ A team of the critical people needed were recruited, all sharing the vision for the new Gastro Pub.‚  Emmett Maher was identified as a key figure with extensive experience in the Gastro Pub business.‚  Linda Moss (the architect) conveyed a remarkable vision for how the building might look and feel.‚  The importance of a social media strategy was identified early on, with Anna Moss being brought on board for her photographic and social media development skills.‚  The vision was to offer great Irish food and drink, in an exciting environment, producing a memorable experience for our clients. Excellent food, great service in a cool, relaxed, welcoming industrial themed setting was the motto from the outset.

In order to convey to customers that the offering had changed, we decided to change the name to reflect the urban environment in which the building is located, the aesthetics of the building, and the rich history of the area.‚  In November 2014 ¢‚¬Å“The Workshop¢‚¬ was born.

J. Kennedy’s bar has evolved smoothly into The Workshop, with the three Kennedy brother remaining actively involved in the business, and they look forward to being part of the ever changing landscape that is the Dublin Docklands. ‚ ‚ Emmett Maher and the team have put together an enticing menu and look forward to welcoming you to our casual dining area on the ground floor or our Peppercorn room on the first floor, with stunning views over the Liffey.

At The Workshop we are very proud of all our team, as well as our Irish farmers and brewers.‚  We have a great selection of Irish craft beers, and all our food is produced in Ireland.

We hope that you enjoy your time in The Workshop and look forward to seeing you all soon.

The Oldest Pubs In Adelaide

Adelaide, commonly known as the city of churches, hides another rich historical facet – it’s a city teeming with classic bars and pubs. Strolling through Adelaide, you’re likely to be captivated by its historic houses and striking churches. However, it’s the pubs that often steal the show. These establishments, some of the most majestic and historic in Australia, don’t always get the recognition they deserve. For instance, consider the Newmarket Hotel, a stunning three-story pub from 1883, which, though facing demolition, remains a significant piece of Adelaide’s history.

Another hidden gem is the Beresford Arms Inn on Gilles St. Though no longer operational, its magnificence is undeniable.
