WHAT-A-WHEAT

Time for a change, time to say STOP to plastic drinking straws.

On Trend

Getting rid of Pastic Straws

Introducing WHAT-A-WHEAT – wheat-stem drinking straws which offer an excellent, environmentally sustainable and economically feasible alternative to disposable plastic straws.

There is greater recognition of the damage caused by disposable, non-biodegradable straws and it is definitely time for businesses to be at the forefront of this change. Many venues across Australia have realised that that customers these days are mindful of the social and environmental footprint of businesses and their contribution to support it. They are more likely to support and endorse businesses that optimise their environmental impact.

One may argue that disposable paper straws are an alternative. However, their production is tedious and uses lots of chemicals and they get soggy in a couple of minutes. Hence, they are far from ideal.

What are wheat straws?

Wheat straws are a great alternative to the paper straw as they don’t get soggy plus they don’t use lots chemicals to create the the straws.

Wheat is a very by far the most sustainable, eco-friendly and biodegradable product on offer.

One may argue that disposable paper straws are an alternative. However, their production is tedious and uses lots of chemicals and they get soggy in a couple of minutes. Hence, they are far from ideal.

Here is where WHAT-A-WHEAT comes into the game.

  • We use air dried natural wheat stems. Our straws are by far the most sustainable, eco-friendly and biodegradable product on offer.
  • Wheat stems are the byproduct of wheat production. We could almost call ourself a Zero Waste type of product.
  • The straws are naturally gluten free. Gluten it is found in the seeds and chaff,  not in the stem of the wheat plant.
  • Our straws are also naturally water proof,  therefore do not get soggy and as a plus they can withstand hot beverage

What-A-Wheat

Honestly,  we have not invented anything new, we are not that smart 🙂
But sometimes to go ahead it is worth to look back.
Wheat stems were the drinking straws that we used on a daily basis before the nasty invention of plastic ones.
I invite you to be part of this exciting change; get your business noticed for been better and be environmentally friendly. Support this initiative and get on board.

Our Thoughts

What-A-Wheat is one of the best and most honest biodegradable companies we have come across, Prices are a little high at the moment but hopefully as demand grows these prices will come down.

We will have a full review on What-A-Wheat Straws soon.

I think the only thing with wheat straws is the Gluten problem yes they claim they are Gluten free and by standards they are Gluten Free.
Celiacs might not risk it. But this is a very small minority of people and these Celiacs I am sure would prefer a cleaner environment.

Make sure you check out their website and try them out they give cocktails a great an unique look.
