Should I sell coffee

Now, the first question you may ask yourself is whether serving coffee in your bar is a good idea.

And, we can tell you just about anything on the subject, but only you can make this choice.

Why? Because only you know your patrons – do you feel like they would love to have some coffee?

Now, regardless of that, even knowing that you can offer that option opens up a world of possibilities.

Of course, you’re not going to get rich selling coffee, but again, it’s all about providing a complete service to each client you get.

Knowing that a huge percentage of people around the world love this black ambrosia-like drink – we do too – can help you to, at least, consider this option.

Keep in mind that you don’t have to get a monstrous coffee machine – a simple automatic coffee machine can get the job done for you.

How much does it cost to make a coffee?

There are a lot of variables to consider when it comes to knowing the cost of making a cup of coffee, its pricing, and knowing how much profit you’ll get from each.

Some of the variables you must consider are:

  • The quality of the coffee you want to sell.
  • How many cups you’re selling per day, week, and monthly.
  • How much is the price per coffee bag, which of course, increases with the quality.
  • And even the method you’ll use to prepare the coffee.

Additionally, we’d recommend you try and measure how much coffee you’re selling in your first attempts.

If you’re selling a lot, you can lower the price, and on the contrary, if you’re not selling enough.

Best Machine to serve coffee in your bar

Taking into account the points above, you must decide first how you’ll make the coffee.

If you plan to sell a lot of high-quality coffee, you’ll need a barista, and a big ol’ espresso machine. It gives you the best taste but requires a trained operator.

If that’s the case, you can increase the price per cup, and offer a wide range of options that your barista can prepare.

On the other hand, if you just want to have coffee as an option, an automatic coffee machine can get the job done.

This also lowers the price per cup – depending of course on the quality of coffee you use.

Pros and Cons of Automatic Coffee Machine

An automatic machine, as we said above, is the cheaper solution.

Here are its advantages:

  • It’s cheap – you can find one in many different price ranges.
  • It’s easy to use.
  • You won’t need a trained professional to use it, which decreases the price of each cup.

Now, there are other cons to consider:

  • You’ll never achieve the same quality that you can achieve with an espresso machine and a barista.
  • You won’t be able to charge a lot per cup of coffee.
  • It’s not a reliable nor efficient method to produce coffee.

And that’s about it.

Pros and Cons Of Manual Coffee Machine

If you pick a classic espresso coffee machine, you’ll reap different benefits:

  • The taste and quality you can achieve are much, much better.
  • It also looks more professional. Even though it can also be a small espresso machine, it will look better – preparing coffee in them is like a show!
  • It’s not as pricey as it sounds. Local coffee companies can offer you deals with machines and fresh coffee beans (which are better) if you promote and use their coffee.
  • You can charge much more per cup and offer a wide selection of coffee preparations, which you can also include in your bar’s cocktails!

There are a couple of cons that you must also consider:

  • Espresso machines are chunky – most of them occupy a lot of space, especially if they’re good.
  • You must also prepare the space to install them, which can be somewhat inconvenient if the coffee wasn’t in the formula in the first place.
  • And you’ll need to hire someone specifically to prepare the coffee – a barista or a bartender with barista knowledge.

As you can see, it’s not always that simple – but whichever option you go with will surely give you benefits in the long-term!

Final Points

Innovating in your bar is always a risky business – you can lose or win, win at first and lose in the long term, and vice versa.

However, keep in mind that you can always give each innovation a test drive.

Get yourself a great automatic coffee machine and reap the benefits.

If they’re good, then you can substitute a simple automatic coffee maker for an espresso machine that can optimize each cup of coffee you sell.

We highly recommend you take your time while testing this, so you avoid making the wrong decision.

Always listen to the feedback of your patrons closely and act consequently – that will surely get you far.

So, did you have your cup of Joe this morning?
