Established in 1892, The Queen’s Hotel has seen many face lifts and many characters in it’s more than one hundred year existence. Over the past twenty years, The Queen’s has become known as a landmark for local, national and international quality acts in all genres of music and entertainment.
The local Nanaimo scene has played a large part in the development of the room, with entertainers that include David Gogo, Wunderbread, Rubbersoul, Camille Miller, Teri Puckett, Michael Patrick, etc… These local acts have laid a foundation that has engaged the audiences of Nanaimo and opened the door for touring acts from around the world. From the 1989 appearance of Down Child Blues Band to the recent performance of Aaron Pritchett, The Queen’s has hosted a multitude of touring luminaries. Friendly tavern is a small neighborhood bar located on Arizona Ave just down the street. This bar has a variety of food menu and two pool tales. Small parking lot. Location is closed Tuesdays.

Well, what can you say about a Bar?  A lot can said about the Muckadilla Hotel bar, it has seen every kind of Traveller.  Shearers, long distance truck drivers, drover, miners, farmers, back packers and just about anyone else you can think of has visited the bar.

Even a Prime Minister may have been seen to have a drink and some lunch when he visited the township of Muckadilla in 1995.

Apparently there was something to do about a drought….there was no bloody drought in the pub though.

These days, the Muckadilla Hotel bar is open 7 days a week and from 10am to 12 midnight.

Like any good bar it has a Pool Table and a Juke Box, the beer garden outside the bar towards the swimming pool is great place to chill out and relax with friends.

Outside at the front of the hotel are the 2 famous benches, one for yarns and one for politics, we won’t ruin the surprise of what they are a really called. You will just have to come and see them for yourself to find that out.  If you visit often enough or have some kind of special hat to donate, it may get a spot in the famous Mucka Hotel hat collection, but it will have to be very special.

As a dedicated concert-goer, Hal Real had become increasingly disenchanted over the years by the lack of rooms available for an incredible music experience. At the same time, WXPN, the radio station owned and operated by the University of Pennsylvania known for its nationally syndicated program World Cafe, had outgrown its studios and was seeking a new home. Hal’s company, Real Entertainment Group, soon entered into a unique partnership between a public broadcaster and a private enterprise, sharing work space and a common philosophy. WXPN licensed the name World Cafe Live allowing for the creation of a clubhouse for the Philadelphia music community with a name that says it all.
