We think Sydney Harbour is one of the best in the world. There are so many fantastic bars and restaurants that over look the harbour we could not list them all. But we have found 10 of our favourites. Most have large outdoor areas to enjoy Sydney’s great weather.
Yes, the Opera bar is on a lot of our top 10 lists, but it is because it is such a unique and fantastic venue. Substantial outside area looking directly at the harbour bridge. When the sun is shining on a Sunday afternoon, there is no other place you would rather be.
The Bennelong is next door to the Opera Bar but is very different and unique. This is a more classy restaurant and lounge. Bennelong is the type of place you go for top-shelf whiskey after you sell your company for millions. Not the type of place you would feel comfortable in shorts and a T-shirt
The Hyde Hacienda is a breathtaking bar that overlooks Circular Quay and looks back at The Rocks and Harbour Bridge. There is a lot going on inside as well, with their Chic Cuban / Florida vibe that makes you feel fancy and fun at the same time. The Hacienda is one of the best spots for Sydney New Year’s Eve.
The Cruise Bar at the Sydney cruise ship terminal is a great venue that looks down Circular Quay and at the Opera house, and towards the North Shore. They host plenty of events and happy hours though out the week. If you are looking for a happing spot with great views, Cruise Bar should be your first stop.
Watson’s Bay hotel in summer gets very busy, primarily due to it’s ample outside space, with looks back at the city of Sydney. You can see the top of the Harbour bridge. Watson’s Bay Hotel is your typical friendly Australian pub with amazing views.
Whenever you see an Instagram shot of someone looking down at Sydney Harbour, it is probably from Blu Bar on 36 in the Shangri La. This iconic cocktail bar has some of Sydney’s finest mixologists and renowned chefs serving excellent meals.
One of our Favourites in many categories is The Glenmore Hotel. This classic Australian pub overlooks Sydney harbour looking directly at the beautiful Sydney Opera house. With great pub grub and a fantastic undercover rooftop bar, this is a great venue to enjoy the Harbour.
The one called the Harbour View Hotel on this list has the least harbour views mainly because they are located near the Harbour Bridge. But the balcony at the Harbour view is a superb spot to enjoy a beer and marvel at how big the bridge is.
The Manly Wharf Hotel is right on the Harbour and is one of the most popular places on the Northern beach for weekend cocktails. The Wharf Bar has multiple spaces with a restaurant dining area, outside dining, outside bar area and indoor room for dancing and a game of pool.
We are throwing a curve ball at you on this list. Not many people know of Foys Kirribilli, Sydney Flying Squadron or The Flying Bear it depends on who you ask what they call it. But the Sydney Flying Squadron, hidden in the back streets of Kirribilli, hosts the Foys restaurant and the Flyingbear deck Bar. This venue is and is a big local secret type of place. One to check out.
