Midnight Special is a traditional blues song made famous by Lead Belly in 1934. It's about a train whose light is seen as salvation by prisoners watching it pass by night after night, out of reach. There was a superstition developed among the prisoners that if you were in the light of that train you would gain freedom, and be blessed with good fortune.
Everyone's welcome at The Midnight Special, and the spirit of that song was everything we hoped the bar would be—a space where people can gather to listen to music, chat, drink, eat and shine a bit of light on each other.
